OBJ Lands in Minnesota, Adding Another Weapon to Vikings’ Loaded Receiving Corps

The Minnesota Vikings are adding another recognizable name to an already talented group of pass catchers.

Minnesota signed veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to its practice squad Wednesday, giving the 33-year-old another opportunity after his brief return to the New York Giants ended last week. Beckham appeared in three games for New York this season but did not record a reception before being released.

Now, Beckham lands in one of the more intriguing receiving rooms in football.

The Vikings already feature Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings at wide receiver, along with Pro Bowl-caliber tight end T.J. Hockenson. Jefferson remains the centerpiece when healthy, while Addison has developed into another dangerous option capable of stretching defenses vertically. Minnesota also added Jennings during the offseason after he posted a career-high nine receiving touchdowns in 2025.

Beckham is no longer expected to be the featured receiver he was during the early stages of his career, but Minnesota does not need him to be. If he eventually earns a spot on the active roster, his presence could simply give the Vikings another experienced option capable of contributing in certain packages and providing depth when injuries hit.

That depth is particularly important right now. Jefferson missed Minnesota’s Week 4 victory over Miami while dealing with an ankle injury, and the Vikings have received limited production from their other wideouts outside of Addison.

There is also familiarity between Beckham and Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. The two were together with the Los Angeles Rams during their Super Bowl LVI championship run, when Beckham became an important piece of the offense after joining Los Angeles midway through the 2021 season. Beckham caught 21 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns during that postseason.

For his career, Beckham has accumulated 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns across 122 regular-season games.

Whether Beckham can still become a meaningful contributor remains to be seen. But for a 4-0 Vikings team with postseason expectations, adding a veteran with his experience is a low-risk move that makes an already deep collection of receiving talent even more interesting.
