William Nylander Scores 300th Career Goal as Maple Leafs Dominate Oilers in 7-2 Victory

EDMONTON, Alberta — William Nylander reached another significant milestone in his NHL career Saturday night, scoring his 300th career goal as the Toronto Maple Leafs delivered an impressive 7-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place.

Nylander finished with two goals in the victory, helping Toronto extend its winning streak to four games while handing Edmonton just its second regulation loss of the season. The performance also marked Nylander’s 45th career multi-goal game, further establishing his place among the most productive offensive players in Maple Leafs history. (NHL.com)

The 30-year-old Swedish forward reached the milestone in his 763rd NHL game, becoming the fourth-fastest Swedish-born player to score 300 goals. Only Tomas Sandstrom, Mats Sundin and Filip Forsberg accomplished the feat in fewer games.

Nylander’s milestone goal came with 2:04 remaining in the third period, when he found the empty net to give Toronto a commanding 6-2 advantage. The goal also moved him past Rick Vaive for sixth place on the Maple Leafs’ all-time goals list, making him just the sixth player to score 300 goals with the franchise. (NHL.com)

Since making his NHL debut during the 2015-16 season, Nylander has developed into one of Toronto’s most consistent offensive contributors. Known for his skating ability, quick release and creativity with the puck, he has become an essential part of the Maple Leafs’ offensive identity alongside Auston Matthews.

His latest accomplishment adds another chapter to a career that has seen him evolve from a promising young forward into one of the franchise’s most accomplished goal scorers.

Maple Leafs Overpower Oilers in Edmonton

Toronto established control early Saturday night, opening the scoring when former Oilers forward Jack Roslovic found the back of the net at 14:16 of the first period.

The Maple Leafs extended their advantage in the second period behind goals from Matthews and Troy Stecher, who scored just 54 seconds apart to give Toronto a 3-0 lead.

Edmonton finally responded late in the period when Leon Draisaitl scored his first goal of the evening, cutting Toronto’s lead to 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes. (NHL.com)

However, the Maple Leafs quickly regained control in the third.

Nylander scored his first goal of the night on the power play at 5:59, restoring Toronto’s three-goal advantage. Zack MacEwen later extended the lead to 5-1 before Draisaitl answered with his second goal of the contest.

Nylander’s historic empty-net goal put the game out of reach, and Vinni Lettieri added another goal in the closing seconds to complete the 7-2 victory.

Toronto goaltender Anthony Stolarz delivered a strong performance between the pipes, stopping 30 shots to earn his fourth victory of the season. Meanwhile, Edmonton’s Tristan Jarry finished with 25 saves as the Oilers struggled to contain Toronto’s offensive pressure. (NHL.com)

Despite the loss, Edmonton’s offensive stars continued their impressive individual starts to the season. Draisaitl’s two goals brought his league-leading total to 12, while Connor McDavid recorded two assists to extend his season-opening point streak to 11 games.

McDavid now has 33 points through Edmonton’s first 11 games, an extraordinary pace even by his standards. (Global News)

Toronto Continues Building Momentum

Saturday’s victory improved Toronto’s record to 7-4-2, marking its fourth consecutive win after an inconsistent opening stretch to the season.

Perhaps most encouraging for the Maple Leafs was the balanced offensive production. Seven goals from six different players highlighted a team capable of generating offense beyond its biggest stars.

The victory also continued Toronto’s remarkable success in Edmonton. Since the Oilers moved into Rogers Place, the Maple Leafs have compiled a 12-2-1 record in the building, making them one of Edmonton’s most difficult visiting opponents.

Toronto will look to extend its winning streak Monday against the Calgary Flames, while Edmonton returns to action against the Detroit Red Wings.

For Nylander, however, Saturday night represented something more than another victory. His 300th career goal placed him among a select group of players in Maple Leafs history, providing another reminder of the impact he has made throughout his career in Toronto. (Sportsnet)
